Criticism

Post by juva »

Right then, just a quick poll.. if you have paid for a custom is it right to criticize the final job if it is not to your specifications?

Basically this is what happened to me. Paid for a custom that turned out not as I wanted, yet the model has decided to become angry and abusive, not just through email but over Twitter too.

Depends on terms and conditions and such. If you requested something specific, they said they'd do it, and then they didn't without explaining why, yeah, that's on them. You are the customer, and if you're ordering something and it isn't what you paid for, that's bad business.

Yes and No this was my biggest fear and why I never did customs because we all think differently sometimes things get lost in translation. especially if you were typing to someone you may describe something and you think one thing and they think another. if it's a very big blatant misunderstanding then I would say yes. if it was me then i would at least either try. I don't know being a small producer if I could do a full refund but I personally would attempt to make the customer happy

Then on the NO side what do you do with the ass hole client who just complains to get a refund which I hate to say I assume happens more the not. I saw my fair share of people wanting refunds because movie wasn't exactly what they thought it should be the disc didn't arrive I tried to make everyone happy but in doing so I lost a lot of money

So that is a tough call I have been in your position and I know it's not some place I enjoy being. I've also been on the other side being the producer who "and I hate to admit this" sometimes you get a dark view of your clients because so many people try and screw you over

You have every right to critisise something that you have paid money for.. BUT it depends on the complaint.

Stuff like the paintjob not being good or the quality of the video is poor, then fair enough. You have a right to complain.

But some pedantic complaints (like... i dont know..
the ears are not painted) then it's a bit lame.

I'd still wouldnt want a refund mainly because they have delivered and there is normally something to like about the video. These sort of things are a lot more time consuming to film and edit than other stuff so i give them a bit of leeway. They do have lives afterall.

I agree with lordhypno. There are some times where the finished product didnt match what was in my head 100% but baring me going and doing it myself it never will.

I'd have to agree with Lord Hypno. I couldn't imagine investing my own time / effort / money into filming someone else's idea of a fantasy, only to hear them complain that it wasn't "exact" and they want their money back. As far as someone trying to back out of a payment; this is a fairly small community and it doesn't take long for a bad reputation to get around. The same holds true for a lousy producer. And like Simon Jedi pointed out: unless you plan to get the hand-held camera out and film it yourself...

No definitely didn't want a refund. It was just that the video did not match what I wanted. Disappointed with her reaction to the slightest criticism so won't be asking for anymore, which I probably would have.

as long as the criticism is fair and just. I have no problem with it, in short.

Yeah then I'd say you're definitely in the right here and whoever it is is an a-hole.
