3D Scanning produces realistic digital sculptures

I haven't posted in this forum in a long while, but something I stumbled upon was too exciting for me to not post it.
A creative firm called "Infinite Realities" is developing a body-scanning technology where by photographs of models are taken in a 360 degree formation. Now this, by itself, is not anything to be excited about; this idea has been around ever since the Matrix.
However, the people behind Infinite Realities has been tinkering with software and developed a platform where the photographs are used to render the model in realistic 3D. I've provided the link of one of his tech-demos on vimeo. He has more videos uploaded and I believe that some of them will be of great interest to everyone.

I'll also provide the link for their website as well, because believe it or not, they have provided a free tech-demo for download to showcase their technology. Now I've yet to personally try it out as my internet (or perhaps their servers) is not cooperating and I'm downloading at 0.5kbps (the demo is approx. 315 megs).

Now, personally, I'd love for this development to become mainstream. It's no secret what our interests are, given what this forum is. I'm hoping that in the near future, instead of being limited to videos, companies can create entire scenes in realistic 3D where we can walk around in. This technology lends itself to freeze fetish like no other and I am excited of the possibilities. Do note that his tech-demo is created with the Oculus Rift in mind. We may be at the brink of realistic virtual reality here, who'd have thought?
